Free Games Fiesta: From Plague Tale’s Rats to Evil West’s Bullets, PS Plus Serves Up January Treats

As we approach the end of 2023 and the start of a new year, Sony’s PlayStation Plus service has revealed the month’s trio of downloadable titles. Leading the pack this month is A Plague Tale Requiem, the sequel to Asobo’s surprise hit period adventure title from 2019. The follow-up sees siblings Amicia and Hugo fleeing from soldiers of the Inquisition and hordes of ravenous rats.

The game offers narratively focused third-person stealth action, a vast world to explore, and plenty of rats to slay. It will be available to PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers, who can claim the title starting Tuesday, January 2.

Next is the top-down dungeon-crawling action RPG Nobody Saves the World, debuting in November 2022 to critical and commercial success. The game takes place in a world covered in gross fungus and full of monsters, with the eponymous protagonist – a pale-bodied amnesiac named Nobody armed with Nostramagus’ magic wand – setting out to save the world from an unknown curse. Along with the aforementioned titular character, you can recruit a team of unique heroes and explore an expansive overworld, clearing dungeons and battling strange monsters and bosses.

Another top-down title in the collection is Evil West, which takes a supernatural lens to the Wild West. The third-person vampire-hunting shooter from Flying Wild Hog combines lever-action rifles and six-shooters with steampunk-style weapons, a crazy mine cart section, and plenty of bloodthirsty creatures to slay. It’s a gory good time that mixes up the formula by allowing you to scour the map for lore items and other collectibles.

Rounding out the trio is Axiom Verge 2, a satisfyingly challenging platformer that blends roguelike elements with Metroidvania-style exploration and combat. Developed by Hyper Light Drifter creator David Larabee, the title will be available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Deluxe/ Premium plan members on Tuesday, January 17.

Suppose you still need to subscribe to PS Plus. In that case, you can pick up the three titles starting Tuesday, January 2 – provided you still need to claim December’s offerings of Lego 2K Drive, Powerwash Simulator, and Sable.

PS Plus is available for $10 per month, or you can get a three-month free trial if you sign up before the end of the year.

The tiers differ, but each nets you the same three games monthly. The subscription also gives you access to online multiplayer games like FighterZ and Cause 4: Reloaded and various older games across all console generations. You can find more details on the service here.
