Asus Unveils Powerful Upgrade: The ROG Ally X Handheld Gaming PC

Asus has unveiled the successor to its successful ROG Ally gaming console, the ROG Ally X. Launched globally at Computex 2024, the Ally X boasts several significant upgrades over its predecessor, making it an even more attractive option for gamers on the go.

The most notable upgrade is the inclusion of a monster 80Wh battery. This substantial increase in battery life compared to the previous model will surely please gamers who want extended gaming sessions without worrying about running out of juice. The Ally X also packs a visual punch with a stunning 7-inch Full HD display featuring a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. This high refresh rate display ensures clear, blur-free visuals, even in fast-paced games. Gamers can also crank up the brightness to 500 nits, making the Ally X perfect for outdoor gaming sessions where sunlight might hinder visibility on lesser screens.

Under the hood, the Ally X is powered by the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme CPU, promising strong performance for demanding games. Up to 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM complemented this, ensuring smooth multitasking and quick loading times. The Ally X runs on Windows 11, giving gamers access to a vast library of PC games, including the latest AAA titles. Asus has also included a three-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, further expanding the gaming possibilities for Ally X owners.

The Ally X’s ergonomic design has been improved for extended comfort during long gaming marathons. Conveniently placed buttons ensure easy access to all the necessary controls while the overall design feels comfortable.

Connectivity options on the Ally X include a MicroSD card reader for expandable storage, a combo audio jack, and two USB Type-C ports. One of these USB Type-C ports supports USB 3.2 Gen 2 with DisplayPort 1.4, while the other is a full-fledged USB4 port with Thunderbolt 4 compliance and DisplayPort 1.4 support. This allows for versatile connectivity options, including connecting the Ally X to an external monitor or using it to charge other devices.

The Asus ROG Ally X is available for pre-order starting at $799 and is expected to hit retail shelves in July 2024. With its powerful specs, long battery life, stunning display, and comfortable design, the Ally X is a compelling option for gamers looking for a portable powerhouse that can handle even the most demanding games.
